Pyunkang Yul’s Seoul Bukcheon Hanok Village Flagship Store

Pyunkang Yul is a skincare brand developed by the Pyunkang Eastern Medicine Clinic. With an ingredient-focused and minimal formula, the brand stays connected to the clinic’s 46 years tradition based on an authentic and holistic approach.

  • FLAGSHIP STORE INFUSED WITH KOREAN CULTURE – the building itself is Western-style, but a lot of the original wooden elements were preserved and they work wonderfully with the Korean Hanok house-style interior design – lots of bright wood and raw stone

  • MINIMAL MODERN DESIGN BLENDED WITH TRADITIONAL FURNITURE – true to brand DNA, the three floors are filled with traditional Korean furniture such as medical cabinets and chests, and mother-of-pearl inlays, but they are also beautifully worked into the more clean-cut modern design introduced through the renovation project

  • BRAND ETHOS EXPRESSED THROUGHOUT THE SPACE – the starting point for the brand was traditional Korean medicine and there are old drawings hanging on the walls and displayed on tables, a scale and tea kettles showcased along herbs and roots used in formulation

  • KIND & WELL-TRAINED CLIENT ADVISORS – I was very warmly welcomed into the store, introduced to the brand, shown around the spaces and encouraged to use the rooftop, even if only to see the beautiful view

  • NATURE AND ITS HEALING ABILITIES CENTRAL TO THE BRAND EXPERIENCE – the garden, the aforementioned natural ingredients displayed in the basement-level showroom, the view of the surrounding nature from the rooftop, it was present at every touchpoint.

I also like the less-polished atmosphere, as some of the original flooring was preserved. I think it made it very unique and quite different from the Sulwhasoo experience and I encourage anyone visiting the neighborhood to include the flagship in their must-see list.
